HipstaFAQs
We’re happy to answer your questions here at Hipstamatic. Not only are we always around on Twitter and Facebook, we also have an awesome help team and a snazzy Field Guide wiki.
There are a few questions we see more than others, though, so we thought it was time for a handy reference post. Here’s the first installment of our HipstaFAQs!
1. What the what? I bought a new iPhone/my dog deleted my app/evil elves disappeared my Dali lens! How do I get my Paks back?
Fear not! Unless you have an infestation of evil elves (which is a bigger problem), this is totally fixable with the “Restore Purchases” feature. There are full instructions here—they’re a bit lengthy, but break down the process wonderfully (and with screen shots!). Just so you know—it can sometimes take more than one try to get the Paks to restore. But for the most part, those instructions should take care of business!
2. What do you mean I can’t purchase this!?

Getting that image above is no bueno, but there’s an easy solution! It usually has to do with your Apple ID. Because of Apple’s billing system, you need to be logged into your phone with the same ID you used to buy the Hipstamatic app. You can check which ID you’re in by going to the App store, tapping the Featured tab, and scrolling to the bottom of the screen.
If you’re signed into a different account from the one you used to buy Hipstamatic, you’re totally fine. Just take a moment to sign out of the new/different Apple ID and sign back in with your original email/ID. Then open Hipstamatic, and you should be good to go!
If that doesn’t work, there’s another reason it might be giving you that screen—tell ‘em over at the help forum and they’ll get you sorted.
3. Viewfinder, schmiewfinder! Why don’t my images match what I see?
Hipstamatic installs with the viewfinder set to Classic—it’s a nice option if you’re feeling a bit spontaneous! If you’re looking for a little more precision with your shots, though, you can switch to Precision Framing. Go to your phone’s Settings app, look for the Hipstamatic entry. When you go into that tab, you’ll see an option to switch from Classic to Precision.
And don’t forget, you can use fullscreen viewfinder too! The first time I double-tapped and saw that enlarged screen, I just about fell out of my chair. It’s pretty exciting. Once you’re in fullscreen, tap anywhere on the viewfinder to trigger the shutter.
Cheers to fullscreen viewfinder!
